Sandra is a textile lover and scholar. She earned her doctorate at U.C. Berkeley in art history with specialization in Indonesian arts. She has worked as assistant curator of costumes and textiles at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and as textile conservator at the Cooper Hewitt, New York. She currently serves on the boards of Textile Arts Council of the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts and the Traditional Textile Arts Society of South-East Asia of the Museum Tekstil Jakarta.

She graduated from the University of Rochester, New York, with a computer science major and currently serves as an advisor for a private company. While she primarily lives in Asia, she travels widely around the world and collects stories about objects and people.
