Museums for the 21st Century

Professional Development Workshops on Conservation, Curatorial, and Education

From December 2022 to February 2023, the Tracing Patterns Foundation and its partners, the Smithsonian Institution, the American Institute for Indonesian Studies , Museum Ceria, and Institut Konservasi, offer a heritage program called Museums for the 21st Century (M21). The Program addresses three critical museum activities: 1. Conservation; 2. Curatorial and research; 3. Education, especially engagement with family and youth and access for disabilities.

M21 Program starts in December 2022 with in-person workshops in three museums in Jakarta and Kalimantan. It is followed by a check-up meeting with all participants in January 2023. Finally, it presents three online webinars with U.S. experts discussing aspects of the three museum activities addressed during the workshops.

Participation in the Program is free for all museum staff and people involved in heritage development in Indonesia. There is a limited capacity of 20 people for the in-person workshops, but the webinars are open to the public.

The Program is funded by the U.S. Embassy Jakarta and supported by the Kementerian Pendidikan Kebudayaan Riset dan Teknologi.
