Sally Yu Leung is an author, researcher, independent curator, and collector specializing in Chinese material culture, textiles, and decorative arts. Her work explores the cultural journeys of Chinese textiles and embroidered objects, examining how they continue to acquire new meanings as they move across time, cultures, and collections.

Over the course of her career, she has curated twenty-three museum exhibitions, primarily in the United States and China, and has collaborated with museums, universities, and cultural institutions on exhibitions, research, and public programs. Her lectures have been presented internationally across North America, Europe, and Asia, exploring Chinese dress history, material culture, decorative arts, and the stories embedded in everyday objects.

Alongside her curatorial and research practice, Leung taught at Pixar Animation Studios’ Pixar University from 2000 to 2019, where she introduced artists and storytellers to Chinese art, material culture, and visual traditions. She also taught for thirteen years at the Denver Botanic Gardens School of Botanical Art & Illustration, reflecting her longstanding commitment to public education and cross-cultural learning.

Through her research, writing, exhibitions, and teaching, Leung seeks to deepen the understanding of Chinese material culture by connecting historical objects with contemporary audiences and encouraging dialogue across cultures.
